Work-based and career and technical education is allowed in schools, where students can earn credit for their work-related experiences. The state is piloting an innovative school district program, which will include four areas of focus: personalized, flexible pathways, competency-based pathways and student choice.
Virtual & Online Schooling: Although Wyoming lacks a statewide virtual school, a significant portion of digital learning in Wisconsin is facilitated through Virtual 307. This initiative consists of 21 approved multi- and single-district providers, providing both full and part-time programming. Uinta County School District #1 is a member of the Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools, expanding digital learning opportunities to over 2,700 students. The League of Innovative Schools is a network of school leaders in 114 districts in 34 states that aim to enhance and scale digital learning opportunities for students across the nation. Digital Learning Resources: To better carry out the digital learning plan, the state adopted The Future Ready Framework, provides digital learning guidelines, and offers teachers ISTE certification training so they can effectively integrate technology into their instruction. Open Range Wyoming is the state’s repository of Open Educational Resources that districts and schools can utilize for digital learning. The annual K-12 Digital Learning Innovations Awards for educators granted on school, district, and statewide levels and the Wyoming Innovations in Learning conference for educators to share digital learning practices. Career & Technical and/or Work-based Education: Wyoming’s Department of Education CTE opportunities for students, including a magazine called ctEzine, which helps students explore careers and pathways to enter the workforce. Additionally, the state provides a work-based learning guide for students. Personalized, Competency- and/or Mastery-based Learning: In April 2023, Wyoming launched its "Wyoming's Future of Learning" instruction and assessment pilot project, which aims to revolutionize education in the state by offering a student-centered approach focused on competency-based learning, flexible pathways, personalized learning, and student choice. The Wyoming Trust Fund for Innovation Education program, mandated under a 2022 statute, gives schools flexibility for curriculum development and new models of learning, modified schedules and seat time, and technical and STEM education to prepare students for the labor market.
