Leadership

Your Governor:

Jeff Landry (R) (25)
First term began in January 2024 (no term limit).

Governor Jeff Landry is fulfilling his campaign commitment to hold struggling schools accountable and to promote and expand the state’s parental choice programs. He has promised to sign the Giving All a True Opportunity to Rise (GATOR) ESA legislation once it has been sent to his desk.

STATE LEGISLATURE:

The House has passed the GATOR legislation creating a new scholarship program with strong support and now awaits the Senate to push it to the finish line. With a new Governor and a like-minded legislature, the future may look very bright for the Pelican state and opportunities for families.

Constitutional Issues

Both tax credit and voucher programs are consistent with the Louisiana Constitution, which does not contain a Blaine Amendment, but it does contain parallel language to the federal Constitution's Religion Clauses.

In a 2018 ruling, the Louisiana Supreme Court found that charters are constitutional.

Transparency

School report cards are easily accessed on Louisiana’s Department of Education website, under the "Measuring Results” section. Report cards are extremely easy to navigate and include detailed information on academic offerings, after school opportunities, academic performance by student groups, teacher workforce, among other measures like music and art.

Educational options are also highlighted on the main banner under “School Choices.”

School Board elections in Louisiana occur separately from the general election cycle, often resulting in reduced parental influence and a diminished ability to make their voices heard due to lower voter turnout.
