Leadership

Your Governor:

Spencer Cox (R) (75)
First Term Began in 2021 (Four Year Terms; No Term Limit). Re-Elected in 2024.

Recently re-elected Governor Cox had a solid previous term where he passed the Utah Fits All Scholarship Program, an ESA  providing $8,000 to families for the school of their choice. He also campaigned on expanding apprenticeships and workforce programs, as well as funding all-day kindergarten for charter school students.  The Governor seems to have the Beehive State buzzing with educational excitement.

STATE LEGISLATURE:

The legislature delivered a major victory for parent power by passing the Education Savings Account program. Let’s hope increased funding will follow to truly make it universal, and that this is only the beginning for education freedom in the Beehive State.

Constitutional Issues

The state has a Blaine Amendment but it does not limit the ability of students to "use publicly funded scholarships to attend private, religious or public schools of their choice." (Institute for Justice)

Report cards are easily accessible under “Schools & Educators → Data Gateway” on Utah's State Board of Education homepage. The landing page allows users to compare schools, access report cards, and analyze school climate surveys, among other things. Report cards provide information on academic achievement and growth, EL progress, and postsecondary readiness, with fuel tanks to analyze school standing against the state’s accountability measures. Previous years’ data is also present.

Educational options are accessed under the “Departments” and “Schools and Educators” tabs, providing multiple ways for families to determine schooling options.

School board elections in Utah align with the general election cycle, empowering parents with greater influence in their decision-making due to increased voter turnout.
