Transformational Learning Opportunities:

Virtual & Online Schooling:

  • Ohio does not have a statewide virtual school but it does have 7 multi-district online charter schools, which are authorized through the Oklahoma Statewide Virtual Charter School Board

  • Horizon: Digitally Enhanced Campus is a blended-learning model that provides supplemental online education in a variety of subjects, including AP, STEM, and foreign languages, alongside credit recovery options. Students at Horizon can engage in local district activities such as sports and band. The organization also hosts a Consortium that partners with school districts to offer advice on online course alignment.

  • To equip students for the high-tech workforce, Oklahoma established a network of technology centers that offer tuition-free attendance to high school students who can earn credits from local universities. Presently, the state boasts 29 technology center districts across 60 campuses and offer training in more than 90 instructional areas.

Digital Learning Resources:

  • In 2022, legislation was passed that requires teachers to take professional development on Digital Teaching and Learning.

  • Oklahoma has grant opportunities and free digital content, including instructional resources, Digital Citizenship tools, and Open Educational Resources (OER).

  • The Oklahoma Society for Technology in Education, a non-profit organization, strives to deliver innovative and authentic professional learning opportunities to educators.

  • Curious about your district’s internet access? ConnectK-12 provides state- and district-specific information on access to the recommended bandwidth speeds and monthly internet costs.

Career & Technical and/or Work-based Education:

Personalized, Competency- and/or Mastery-based Learning:

  • Oklahoma offers resources on competency-based education. It is unclear if competency-based models are currently in place in schools or districts.

Innovation Schools, Zones, and/or Districts:

  • Oklahoma's School District Empowerment Program gives power to locally elected school board members to govern districts and make changes based on the needs of their diverse students, allowing for personalized and individualized model instruction.
