Transformational Learning Opportunities:

Virtual & Online Schooling:

• At the state level, Georgia offers two free, full-time, K-12 online learning options: Georgia Connections Academy and Georgia Cyber Academy, while students in grades 6-12 can also attend Destinations Career Academy of Georgia. Certain districts also provide distance learning options, allowing students from beyond the district's boundaries to potentially enroll, including Gwinnett Online Campus, Cobb Virtual Academy, Rockdale Virtual Campus, DeKalb County’s FLEX Academy, and Fulton Virtual. 

• Dekalb County School District and Gwinnett County Public Schools are members of Digital Promise’s League of Innovative Schools. The League of Innovative Schools is a national network of school leaders in 150 districts in 38 states that aim to enhance and scale digital learning opportunities for students across the nation.

Digital Learning Resources:

• GA’s Department of Education provides digital learning resources, including open ed resources for teachers and students, as well as professional development opportunities.

Career & Technical and/or Work-based Education:

• Under statute, Georgia allows schools to offer work-based learning and state policy allows students to earn credits towards graduation for work-based learning activities. 

• Georgia allocates funds for CTE programming based on a formula considering full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment and student-teacher ratios. Both general and career education are covered under the same program. Additionally, CTE laboratory programs in career, technical, and agricultural education receive an extra FTE weight. Georgia also offers various CTE grant programs, subject to legislative funding, including those supporting industry certification and youth apprenticeship initiatives.

Personalized, Competency- and/or Mastery-based Learning:

• Georgia offers a Personalized Learning Grant, which promotes student achievement through personalized instruction and the use of technology. The PL Grant is currently implemented in 14 schools across 4 districts. 

• Additionally, an Innovation Fund creates partnerships between nonprofits, higher education institutions, and public schools to promote personalized learning and student achievement. 

• A 2022 Yass Prize Finalist, SOAR Academy is one of many innovative movements happening in the state; the microschool provides a non-traditional learning environment for students with educational deficiencies.
