Your Governor:

Josh Stein (D) (50)
First Term Limit Began In 2025 (Two Term Limit)
The parents of the Tar Heel state will have an uphill battle with Governor Josh Stein. He’s not interested in education freedom, and if he has his way, thousands of children and future students would be stripped of the opportunity to attend a school that meets their needs. In February 2024, over 72,000 applications were submitted to the Opportunity Scholarship Fund and thankfully the legislature has overridden his predecessor’s veto of a statewide expansion. Governor Stein has to accept what’s clear - empowering parents to send their children to the school that best meets their needs is what the people of the Tar Heel state demand.
STATE LEGISLATURE:
The state legislature showed its pro-parent power by enacting major changes to the Opportunity Scholarship program in the state budget at the end of last year. With the removal of the income cap, no prior public school enrollment necessary, and scholarship amounts based on household income, the legislators have proven they will lead when it comes to what is best for the families of North Carolina. Yet, the Governor is only interested in serving a special interest group with adult needs as their special interest.
Constitutional Issues

"The North Carolina Constitution does not have a Blaine Amendment or a Compelled Support Clause, and state cases look to federal Establishment Clause precedent. In 2014, The North Carolina Supreme Court upheld the new Opportunity Scholarship program [similar to a voucher] against a challenge under North Carolina's education article and public purpose article."
