Virtual & Online Schooling:

• Virtual Learning Academy Charter School is New Hampshire’s statewide virtual school. Students can participate in the school as a full or part time student. The school is one of the first to offer an online curriculum that is mastery-based!

• Nashua School District is a member of the Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools. The League of Innovative Schools is a national network of school leaders in 150 districts in 38 states that aim to enhance and scale digital learning opportunities for students across the nation.

Digital Learning Resources:

• GenYES New Hampshire is an initiative with the NHDOE and non-profit organization Generation YES to integrate educational technology into the classroom. There are 17 schools in the state that are participating and developing digital literacy skills. 

• Future Ready New Hampshire has participating school districts utilizing digital learning as a part of their curriculum to prepare students for college and career. School districts participating are following the Future Ready Framework to refine the traditional curriculum and school structure. 

• The Go Open program is a free digital library for educators to access openly licensed educational resources. Many school districts across the state are a part of the #GoOpen transition, and use high-quality OER digital content in the classroom. 

• The New Hampshire School Connectivity Initiative is a collaboration between agencies to expand internet connectivity and broadband access in K-12 schools.

Career & Technical and/or Work-based Education:

• The state’s DOE actively supports Career and Technical Education programs. These programs provide students with career-focused skills and knowledge, preparing them for college or directly entering the workforce.

Personalized, Competency- and/or Mastery-based Learning:

• In 2005, New Hampshire enacted regulations that now require all high schools to award credit based on mastery of required competencies, rather than seat time. Lawmakers have continually adjusted regulations to broaden personalized learning by mandating that districts offer extended learning opportunities beyond the traditional school setting, all while being aligned with graduation competencies. This ensures that students can achieve acknowledgment for mastering district or graduation competencies in various extended learning activities, such as independent study, private instruction, internships, and community service.

• The Performance Assessment for Competency Education (PACE) program aims to transform accountability and assessment methods by reducing reliance on standardized testing. Instead, it employs teacher-created assessments focusing on students' grasp of content.

• CAST, a nonprofit research and development organization, has partnered with the state's Department of Education and more than 70 schools so educators can collaborate and engage in a program that teaches the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and its application in classrooms.

Innovation Schools, Zones, and/or Districts:

• In 2023, the New Hampshire State Board of Education unanimously adopted Innovation Schools to empower educators and stakeholders in implementing creative strategies for improving student achievement and closing achievement gaps. These schools grant local boards the authority to create innovative plans and seek waivers for specific administrative rules, allowing flexibility to foster innovation and better address students' individual needs in public schools.
